Always verify before filing. HSN codes and GST rates are sourced from CBIC notifications and are subject to change via GST Council updates. Several textile/apparel categories use a price-split rate (5% if ≤ ₹1,000, 12% if > ₹1,000). For ambiguous products, consult your CA. Amazon/Flipkart will reject incorrect HSNs at listing time. Cross-check on the official CBIC HSN search or your tax advisor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an HSN code and why do I need one?

HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) is a 4–8 digit code that classifies a product for GST purposes. Amazon and Flipkart require the correct HSN before listing — wrong HSN can lead to listing rejection, GST mismatches or notices from tax authorities. Every seller with turnover above ₹5 crore must use 6-digit HSN.

Do textile and apparel products have a special GST rate?

Yes. Most apparel and made-up textile articles have a price-split rate: 5% GST if MRP ≤ ₹1,000, 12% GST if MRP > ₹1,000. Our finder marks these clearly with the split-rate badge. Footwear has a similar split (12% / 18%).

Where do these HSN codes come from?

CBIC notifications and the GST Council rate schedule (Schedule I–VI). We curated the 200+ entries most commonly used by e-commerce sellers across 23 parent categories. Always cross-check with your CA before filing.

Can I copy the HSN to my Amazon/Flipkart listing?

Yes — every result has a Copy HSN button. The Amazon/Flipkart/Meesho category tags also tell you which marketplace category to pick when listing the product.

What if my product isn’t listed?

Use the search box to look for the closest match by product name. If still unsure, the official CBIC HSN search (linked in the disclaimer) is exhaustive but slower. For ambiguous classifications, consult a GST practitioner — wrong HSN can attract penalties.
